The Name of the Wind

Lately I've been cycling through my hobbies again, and recently it's been non-stop reading. Here's my plug: read The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss.

Excerpt:
My name is Kvothe, pronounced nearly the same as "quothe"... I have stolen princesses back from sleeping barrow kings. I burned down the town of Trebon. I have spent the night with Felurian and left with both my sanity and my life. I was expelled from the University at a younger age than most people are allowed in. I tread paths by moonlight that others fear to speak of during day. I have talked to Gods, loved women, and written songs that make the minstrels weep.

Pretty intriguing, eh? As awesome as Kvothe is, K and I have our reservations about him. And they are very different concerns. K gets mad at Kvothe because the little twit (the first two books cover his teenage years) can't keep his mouth shut. He just has to get the last word in and is absolutely irreverent toward the higher ups, which gets him in tons of trouble.

My pet peeve about Kvothe? I can't stand how every time he gets a little bit of windfall, he doesn't use it to pay off his perpetual debt. Nooo, he immediately goes to the nearest shops and spends it all! I guess K is right; I do tend to think of the world, imaginary or not, in terms of money. ^_^;;

Anyway, go check it out. Don't take my word for it; it was ranked #3 in the top 10 Best Science Fiction/Fantasy Novels of the Decade on Tor.com. :)

My boyfriend and I read this book too and we really liked it! I personally like the different kind of fantasy world Rothfuss made and the different kind of magic (at least it's different from things I've read)! I also am liking the George R. R. Martin series called "A Song of Ice and Fire," I am really enjoying it so far! =]

I like George R. R. Martin's series too! Have you been watching the HBO episodes? We're still a couple behind but loving the casting choices; Tyrion's my favorite. :)

I actually saw the first episode then I liked it so much I went and started reading the book! I haven't watched any episodes after that haha! I really like the casting choices too, I'm particularly partial to Arya, Daenerys and Jon as characters and for the actor choices!
