New Year's Resolutions (or Not)

K doesn't believe in making New Year's Resolutions because, well, if you really want to change, you should just start as soon as possible instead of only at a certain time of the year (and then ignoring it a month later). I never made resolutions because my family didn't make a big deal out of New Year's Day. That being said, I do have an ongoing list of "Things I Want to Do Before I Die" (aka my Bucket List). It was originally my "Things I Want to Do When I Grow Up" list that I started in college. I would dream of all these cool pursuits I could follow once I was making money and no longer had to do homework/studying in my free time.

Then I discovered a website called, where you can record, share, and conquer your Bucket List with other fellow adventurers. Here's a sampling of what I've got so far:

  • Take acting lessons - I've determined I suck at playing angry people
  • Learn martial arts - yay karate!
  • Write a novel - yay NaNoWriMo!
  • Share the gospel with someone
Given Up
  • Go scuba diving - I live in a landlocked state and K doesn't prefer beaches
  • Run a marathon - I trained up to about 12-13 miles and decided running is too boring
Things to Do
  • Read the entire Bible - this is my "unofficial" 2012 New Year's resolution!
  • Have a kid - almost there!
  • Do the splits
  • Visit Japan
  • Take voice lessons
  • etc...
Do you believe in making New Year's resolutions? If so, what are yours for 2012?

Interesting site! We don't make resolutions either, never have. This year though we did take time to pray and give thanks for the prev yr and pray about our hopes this year. This will be our new tradition. :)

I was going to text you back about that; I think the end/beginning of year prayer idea is fantastic! Thanks for sharing such a wonderful tradition. :)

I don't make resolutions. In fact, I think the "real" New Year happens at the beginning of September. Things really change then. Summer ends, school starts, and there is nothing like a few backpacks full of pristine paper and new pencils to make you feel like you have a fresh start.

If you held a gun to my head and asked me if I am doing anything to start off January I would admit my Wii and I are in the midst of a six-week challenge to peel off a few layers of marathon-level holiday eating.

@Not Jenny, good luck with the Wii exercise program! Which one are you using because I've always wondered if those work? Let me know how it goes!

I am a big fan of EA Sports Active. I am working through the expansion pack "More Workouts" now. The original and now this one really do the trick fir ne. Very short breaks between exercises keep your heart rate up (unlike with Wii Fit) and the addition of a resistance band make it a pretty effective workout.
I call my trainer the Wii Bitch because she is quite pushy and doesn't tolerate cheating on exercises!

Lol, I'll have to consider trying it after the baby is born. Yeah, Wii Fit always looked a little simple to me, so glad to hear your opinion on the EA version. Hmm, maybe I can add it to my baby registry... ^_~

Hello! Cool list! I don't really make resolutions. I like to believe I am always trying to make myself better but I do re-evaluate my goals that I work on and rewrite them. To others it probably looks like new years resolutions but to me they are just a continuation. Here is my blog post on them: I like the bucket list idea!

@LeeAnn, I love your ongoing yearly goals! You're going to accomplish so much this year. :)

@Mollie, I'm so jealous! I heard visiting Japan can be really expensive, so I wish we had family/friends to stay with. K used to have a Japanese college roommate who said he could visit anytime, but he lost track of him over the years. :/
