Where Have All the Gamers' Wives Gone?

Speaking of blogs, back when I started writing 3 years ago, I was hard pressed to find a unique blog name since all variants of "gamer's wife" seemed to be taken. I wasn't even sure if I had a unique voice worth hearing with so many established bloggers out there. Yet fast-forward to today, and my plans to write about my fellow gamers' wives has been thwarted because no one appears to be updating anymore. Well, in memory of my "fallen" colleagues, here's a partial list of my past blog subscriptions, both long- and short-lived.

The Gamer's Wife
Summary: The former reigning queen of all gamers' wives' blogs, Heather started her blog in 2007 and began tackling focused subjects such as How to Manipulate a Gamer and The Gamer's Wife Freakout. Titles like that are why her readers remained so loyal. Over the years, the website became more of a personal blog laden with pictures of vacations and family. Still, we're sorely sorry to see her go.

The Gamer's Girl
Summary: This short-lived blog was unfortunately a flash in the pan. A 2009 review from Kotaku.com blasted the author Jill into instant fame, but after only a handful of posts, she soon abandoned post for other pursuits. The URL has now been sold and turned into an ad conglomeration site pitching Flash games like "Teddy Bear Dress Up" and "Gossip Girls Style 2."

Confessions of a Gamer Wife
Summary: Here's a woman who is truly a gamer herself, not just a gamer's wife. Jess' entries consisted of page-long essays reviewing games like Dragon Quest IX, Monkey Island 2, and even Dead or Alive: Xtreme 2. While she no longer updates this clearly time-intensive blog, her Etsy site for crochet amigurumi appears to remain open.
Last Update: Jan 2011

Gamerz Wife
Summary: Now this is a truly clever spin on the genre: XBox 360 reviews for gamers' wives. Specifically, the author Kate wrote reviews with an eye for how "watchable" a game was for bystanders. Her ratings scale included Popcorn Worthy, Multi-Tasker, Chore Time, and Play It. Check it out if you're looking for a fun game for both the player and the watcher.

Haha, I like "Gamerz" - I am totally about whether a game is watchable as a bystander...my husband loves that I like to imitate the music and repetitive sword flailing battle cries. I would review the sounds. :P

Haha - so funny to see a recap of my blog on your site! I'm sorry I've been missing for the whole year. It came down to me not wanting to talk about my family/personal life on the blog anymore, but I have been keeping up with reading posts in my google reader - just haven't been commenting! I have plans to re-do the site and just focus on gamer's wife and gaming related news. I have to get motivated first! You know how life gets in the way sometimes :)

Jessi: Haha, I can totally imagine you doing that! Just the other day, K was making these weird "Megaman death scene" sound effects; I just had to laugh. :)

Heather: You should totally come back and write about gaming stuff! You really inspired me to start my blog back in the day. Sending motivation mojo your way. ;)

Thank you for sharing these! Its great to read reviews and musings about video games by female gamers. I've tried my hand at writing about video games, because they're such a big part of my life, but its hard for me to stay focused on it. I have so many other random things going on that I just want to write about whatever... lol But I really appreciate a solid blog about gaming.

Alicat, do keep on writing! One of the things that Bryan Allain said in his blogging mojo book is that everyone has a voice that should be heard. If you go to his new website killertribes.com, in the lower right-hand corner is where you can sign up for a free PDF on how to overcome the top 29 blogging frustrations. Good luck; it really helped me!

I'm a gamers wife! I started a blog to have something to do while my husband games(other than crafting hee hee). I suppose my blog will be up until I get tired of posting things LOL!

@The Wife - Sweet, I'll totally check out your new blog! Best of luck with the writing; it's always great to hear another gamer's wife's voice out there. :)
